Project overview

The project consisted of a 10 storey steel framed block of student accommodation comprising of 500 apartments. The ground conditions were poor and the site needed to be piled to accommodate the loading. In addition severe diesel contamination was found across the site area due to leakages from two large storage tanks and approximately 50,000 litres of diesel was pumped from the site. The site was then treated using bio-remediation techniques, pumping gel into well points and approximately five metre centres across the site area.

Value Engineering work was undertaken on the steel frame and in particular above the retail areas and a composite hollow rib floor was adopted for the suspended floor above these areas. The scheme was finished within budget being provided in Lincoln,
