HSP Consulting were the lead structural and civil engineers for the temporary and permanent works design of the Royal Shakespeare’s Company’s New Costume Workshop. The existing listed buildings have been underpinned in many cases in order to achieve suitable headrooms for both the workforce and visitors to the production unit. Existing facades were also retained.
Significant structural steelwork has been utilised to form the new infill of the manufacturing areas. The refurbishment of the existing listed building has been extensive. The site has significant changes in level and a sheet piled wall was utilised where the change in level was in the region of two metres.
